Chapel in Review for Week ending Nov 27th

Chapel Report
Friday, November 30, 2015


Richard performed with the Zoar Boys, a quartet of friends from his home church in Waldheim, in chapel on Tuesday, November 3.






Florence Driedger visited chapel on November 4.  Florence and her husband Otto are co-Pastors at Peace Mennonite Church, a multi-racial, multi-ethnic church in Regina.  Florence shared about her most recent trip to Ukraine, a country she and her husband and have visited many times in the past 25 years to serve at the Florence Centre, a family service and community education centre that they helped create in the post-Soviet era. 






Remembrance Day was commemorated on Friday, November 6 in chapel with a moment of silence, a video, and prayers for all affected by war.  “To remember is to work for peace.”





On November 12 students who returned from CMU’s Peace it Together conference in Winnipeg shared about their experiences, which had an aboriginal justice focus this year. 





Lloyd Schmidt, Math teacher and Vice-principal, shared in chapel on November 16.  He made it all add up. 





Following the Paris attacks RJC’s driver’s Education instructor Naveed Anjum spoke in chapel.  Naveed is a practicing Muslim, and condemned the attacks.  He reminded the students about others, mostly Muslim, who have also been victims and he spoke about the importance of understanding between religions. 





On November 19 RJC celebrated “Malaysia day” in honour of our international Malaysian students!  Students dressed in the colors of the Malaysian flag, and enjoyed an authentic Malaysian meal at lunch.  Valen and Christie Lim shared in chapel. 







On November 24 Krista Loewen, pastor at Wildwood Mennonite Church in Saskatoon, led the student body in a liturgical service focused on prayer and taking time to rest from ‘rush and hurry’. 






On November 25 the Ontario-based Theatre of the Beat presented their touring production of “This Will Lead to Dancing” in chapel.  The play focused on inclusivity within faith traditions.

Chapel Report for Week Ending October 30




Teacher Bev Epp shared in chapel on October 26.  Bev talked about courage, and opened up to the student body about times that she has lacked courage in her life.  Bev also related some stories that have given her hope, like the examples of her parents. 




The Theatre Arts class performed in chapel on October 28.  The messages in their short skits were touching, humorous, and thought provoking.

On October 29 the Faith and Life Committee organized a worship chapel through song.  Favourite hymns were sung and the students sounded angelic!

The Christian University Tour visited chapel on October 30.  Some students from Valley Christian Academy also joined us to hear the presentations.  Representatives from Trinity Western University, Ambrose University, King’s College Edmonton, Canadian Mennonite University, and Providence University College were all in attendance.

Chapels - an important part of the day

Chapel is an integral part of the Faith and Life program at RJC.  Chapel happens four days a week, and can takes a variety of forms, depending on the day of the week and time of the year.  Chapels time usually includes some form of worship, sharing, prayer, announcements, performance and/or singing. 
Annual staff chapels and grade 12 chapels are a highlight for the community, as staff and students share about themselves on a personal level.  Welcome Wednesdays are a time set aside for invited guests and pastors to visit our campus.  Our Faith and Life committee is responsible for chapel on Thursdays.  Throughout the year other special features such as Deeper Life Days, International Student Days, and general student assemblies enhance the students' spiritual lives as we spend time together.  Below are some recent chapel activities:

Willard Metzger, Chair of the Mennonite Church Saskatchewan,
addressed students in chapel.  He shared the story of Eli and Samuel,
and spoke of the need to be attentive to the nudging of God.  

Lillian and Norman Nicolson visited and shared about their experiences in
Burkina Faso,Africa where they have been working with MC Canada.
Local politicians visit campus prior to the election on Oct 19th.
Local storyteller Ric Driediger who shared about 'the miracle at
Forest House', his  outfitting lodge that was spared this summer during
the fires in Northern Saskatchewan.


RyanWood was the first up for staff chapels.
RJC participates in the Terry Fox run.
Many students dedicated their run to family members or loved ones.

Faith and Life lead the students through and blind-folded
obstacle course during a 'trust' chapel.

participating in the 2015 Canadian Student Vote.
