Chapel Review for Week Ending October 24th

RJC Faith and Life Report
Friday October 24, 2014

Guests in chapel from this past week included Hague Mennonite Youth Pastor Jesse Doell and local storyteller Ric Driediger.  They each reflected on the theme “Seek first the kingdom of God”, and related the theme to stories from their lives.

On Thursday, October 23 The Faith and Life committee organized a Bible quizzing chapel.  Just to keep it interesting, it was boys versus girls, and the students really got competitive!  The girls won this round, but the boys are plotting a comeback.

Chapel Review for Week ending October 9th

Faith & Life

Mayor of Rosthern, Dennis Helmuth, addressed the student body in chapel on Monday, October 6.  He quizzed the students on their knowledge of the town, encouraged them to get involved in civic life, and challenged them to take time to practice acts of generosity and compassion during their time in town.  RJC is grateful for the work of the Town of Rosthern, particularly after the town’s maintenance staff repaired our water main break so quickly last week!

The Faith and Life Committee organized a Thanksgiving chapel on Wednesday, October 8.  After opening in prayer, students shared experiences for which they were ungrateful.  Shortly after that, students related stories of thanksgiving.  The goal of the exercise was to encourage students to be thankful for what we have.  Students decorated the dining hall with cutout turkeys and pumpkins, which were filled with comments of thanksgiving from the students.  Thank you to our wonderful kitchen staff for preparing an amazing Thanksgiving feast!

Representatives from Nipawin Bible College visited the chapel on Thursday, October 9.  Jeremy Fehr shared a devotional based on our chapel theme “Seek First the Kingdom of God” and provided some reasons for students to attend Bible school, and to continue to study the bible beyond their years past RJC.

Chapel Review Week ending October 3rd

Faith & Life

On October 1st Principal Jim Epp marked the turning of the calendar by addressing the student body in chapel.  With one month of the school year behind us, his thoughts turned to a passage from Colossians 3:12-17 in which the faithful are encouraged to “bear with each other”.  It was a timely message as we continue the work of building our school community.

On Oct. 2nd The Faith and Life Committee challenged students to build trust in one another.  Students were randomly paired, and given a blindfold.  In turn, each student was led, by verbal commands, blindfolded through an obstacle course, complete with stairs and jumps!  Everyone completed the course safely (much to Ms. Kuny’s delight as she supervised the ‘leap of faith’ section of the course), and students took one more step toward trusting one another.
