ALSO-Alabama NOLA!

Our day started bright and early today with a wake up call of 6:15 (there were very few smiles down at breakfast). We left our hotel by 7, and headed for New Orleans, which was a six hour drive. The first half was spent catching up on those extra Z’s and the rest of the ride was spent watching a movie, singing, looking for turtles and alligators out of the windows of the bus and lathering up with sunscreen. We arrived outside “Harrah’s Casino” at about 1pm. From there we walked about 10 minutes along the Mississippi River (which was a lot dirtier than you would expect) heading for the French Quarter. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day. We were first introduced to the New Orleans culture by having a ferry tour bus play a song on the organ, which consisted of steam pipes on the top of the ferry. Our first hour at the French Quarter was spent in groups, each with a chaperone, finding a place to eat and figuring our way around the area. Lunch provided us with many different tastes that not a lot of us had experienced before, such as, frog legs, gator on a stick, whole crawfish, seafood tacos, and many fresh flavors. After the first hour we met back at Jackson Square, our meeting place for the afternoon, and for the rest of the afternoon we explored voodoo shops, street side artists, a lot of painted people, street bands, weddings, and a lot of cigar smoke (*plugging nose* PU!)

Frogs Legs!

Crawfish!

The afternoon seemed to have flown by and soon it was time to embark back on the bus and head to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, where we are staying at Knights Inn and once again grateful to be in a bed. We rehearsed our songs for church tomorrow morning, the run through had some glitches (mainly because we kept eyeing the Wendy’s across the lawn), however tomorrow we will be pitch perfect (HA, get it? It’s a movie). Right now we are sitting in the Wendy’s eating burgers, fries and frosty’s YUM! It has been a tiring day of very hot weather and sore feet but with a little extra sleep in time tomorrow we will be ready to start our week of service.

Peace out, Alyssa and Makenna

Wifi access has been sporadic.  We will try to get you caught up to date with a couple of posts a day! All is well!
