The Saskatoon ALSO group was at the MCC Centre this morning helping pack relief blankets and health kits. The staff and volunteers at MCC were really nice, and after a few instructions, let us jump right in and help them. Most of the health kits will go to people in conflict zones around the world, in particular Syria and Ukraine where the need is still high. It felt good to be doing something that we know will help, even a little.
Before lunch we all gathered together in the MCC foyer and Ma April shared briefly about her experience in a refugee camp in Thailand before moving to Canada. She shared memories of being on the receiving end of a health kit. On behalf of the student body's Have a Heart fundraiser Ma April presented a $1,000.00 cheque to MCC SK to purchase supplies for more health kits and blankets. It was a gift that had come full circle!
After a quick lunch, students shuttled over to WP Bate Community School in the Meadow Green neighborhood where they continued volunteering in classrooms and in the nutrition room. WP Bate is a lively school! The teachers and staff are amazing, and they are doing a great job in spite of all of the challenges they face on a daily basis. Even in the short time we were there we witnessed some of these challenges, and saw lots of the joys!
Though we didn't travel far today, our reach was global. We started the day packing kits going to Syria, and finished the day working with some of Canada's most recent immigrants. We saw the need in the world and did our best to respond from where God placed us.
